Candied yammssss

Heyyyy. So today im gonna make candied yams. Well.. attempt to make them. And you guys are coming along! I’m gonna post the recipe as well. So….let’s get started!

ok. So very simple (I think). To make them you need:

  • yams or sweet potatoes- I mean you can’t make candied yams without the…you know yams
  • MARSHMALLOWS!!!!- so you might be wondering: why put marshmallows in something for dinner?!?! Well I have no idea but I do know it’s the best decision EVER
  • brown sugar- so you kind of layer it like a coffee cake! So yams, brown sugar mixture, yams, brown sugar mixture, and so on and you need brown sugar for the filling
  • Butter- because of course butter is better!
  • pecans- if you have a nut allergy then you can leave it out but, I mean why leave them out??

Ingredients:

serves 7

difficulty: easy

time to cook: 50 mins

time to prepare: 10 mins

Time in all: 1 hr

  • 4 medium yams or sweet potatoes
  • half a bag of mini marshmallows (see notes for substitutes)
  • 2/3 cup pecans (optional)
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • pinch of salt
  • vanilla (optional)

✨DIRECTIONS✨:

ok so first you need to boil your yams. This will take about 45 minutes.

while that’s happening you can make your like filling. so combine your butter, pecans, and your sugar. Then you’re going to wait for it to bubble up and then add salt to and a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. If you’re using pure vanilla extract, then use 1/4 of a teaspoon. And. Set it to the side.

once your yams are soft to where you can poke it with a Fork cool it down and strain it. Blend it up with a handmixer until smooth. Then layer it like this: yams, brown sugar, mixture, yams, brown sugar mixture, until you used up both. Then top it with mini marshmallows and pecans.

and then broil it on high or torch it! I really liked torching it! And then serve and enjoy!

Notes:

– you can use regular marshmallows instead of mini ones!

– TIP: if you are using the torch and you are under 13 yrs old, then is you can I HIGHLY advise adult supervision, because I almost burned the house down!
(not literally but still)

– I do recommend using brown butter for the filling!

okkkkk! So, it actually turned out really well! The potatoes were soooo smooth and the filling/topping was just *angels singing*. Oops! Anyways, I would say it’s a success! And it really easy! Until next time!
